Sugar Bowl with Lid, JLMenau Graf Von Henneberg, Floral, Vintage

• Details:  This is an adorable sugar bowl, it has such pretty florals!!  There is a pink rose, an orange tulip and some tiny purple, blue and yellow flowers, all surrounded by green leaves.  The shape is very unique and it's not smooth but has ribbing on the bottom 2/3rds as well as on the lid.  There are gold accents on the rim and lid finial.  The backstamp is from: "JLMenau Graf Von Hennenberg Porsellan".  We were able to date this stamp to between 1934 and 1949.  There is also an embossed number, looks like "015", perhaps that is their pattern number, or shape/mold number.  Replacements.com shows this pattern as HEP1.  This is not a very large sugar bowl, please note the size below.  Overall a very sweet, delicate sugar bowl, perfect as a hostess gift, perhaps with a special flavored sugar or with a pretty silver spoon.  Great for Mother's Day as well!.

JLMenau Graf Von Henneberg Porcelain (Ilmenauer Porzellanfabrik Graf von Henneberg A.G.),  has a very long history going back to 1777.  For brevity, we will only concentrate on the time when this sugar bowl was made, after the market crash of 1929, between 1930 and 1949.  After the crash, the factory was forced to close, many members of the board resigned but discussions continued.  Finally it was decided to reopen under a new name and new leadership. They chose the new name "Graf von Henneberg (Duke of Henneberg)" for historic reasons, first, the town of Ilmenau had formerly been part of the ducy Henneberg, and secondly, they had previously used the Henneberg name on their stamp so it made sense to continue.  The company grew under new management until 1949.  Unfortunately on September 1, 1939 WWII started and the factory was nationalized and the name changed again to V.E.B Henneberg Porzellan Ilmenau. That's another part of this very long and interesting porcelain company's history.
