Seachem Reef Advantage Strontium

Reef Advantage Strontium restores and maintains strontium levels to those found in natural seawater, supporting the vigorous growth of corals and other calcifying organisms. Strontium, chemically similar to calcium, is essential for reef aquariums, especially densely populated systems requiring a continuous supply. This highly concentrated (30,000 ppm), ionically balanced supplement can be added directly to the tank without predissolving, ensuring convenient and effective dosing.

Strontium naturally occurs in seawater at about 8 to 10 mg/L and is incorporated by corals, coralline algae, tridacnid clams, and other organisms that build calcareous skeletons or shells. Maintaining optimal strontium levels enhances the health and growth of these marine life forms, contributing to a thriving reef environment.

Directions for Use:
Beginner: Use a level teaspoon or 1 capful (5 mL) per 80–150 L (20–40 gallons) twice a week. This can be added directly to the aquarium.
Advanced: Test strontium levels and dose accordingly to achieve and maintain 8–12 mg/L. Each dose raises strontium by approximately 0.6 to 2 mg/L, depending on dosing method. Adjust size or frequency as needed.
Expert: After determining the strontium depletion rate, set up a continuous drip system. Use the formula t=0.02 × v × s (teaspoons to add to top-off water) or m=0.4 × v × s (mL to add to top-off water), where v is tank volume in gallons and s is the desired increase in mg/L. For example, to raise strontium by 8 mg/L in a 50-gallon tank, add 8 teaspoons or 160 mL to top-off water accordingly.

Important Hints:
Use Reef Status™ Strontium™ test kits to monitor levels accurately. Avoid overdosing, as excess strontium may accelerate carbonate alkalinity loss. Do not mix directly with carbonate supplements; add strontium and carbonate additives on alternate days or at least 30 minutes apart to maintain water chemistry balance.
