Royalux Hurricane Lantern – Vintage French Oil Lantern by SIF, 1950s–1970s

Beautiful vintage Royalux hurricane lantern, also known as a French oil lantern, in very nice condition. This original Royalux lantern is complete and fully working.

What makes this model especially special is the glass lift mechanism. By lowering the side lever, the glass moves smoothly upward, an elegant and uncommon technical feature. Another rare detail is the protective wire cage, a design element that is not often seen on lanterns of this type.

The top of the lantern is clearly stamped with “Royalux – Bté S.G.D.G. – Made in France.” Royalux was a brand of the well‑known French manufacturer SIF, La Société Industrielle de Ferblanterie. This lantern is believed to have been produced between approximately 1955 and 1970, making it a fine example of mid‑20th‑century French industrial design.

As expected with an authentic vintage hurricane lantern, it shows light signs of age, which add to its character and charm. In some crevices there are still traces of the original white paint. This lantern is a beautiful addition to any collection, but it is also perfectly suitable for practical use as atmospheric lighting indoors, in the garden, or while camping or on holiday.

The lantern is fitted with a new wick and has only been used with pure kerosene/paraffin. It has a height of approximately 27 cm and features the original glass, which is intact and without chips or cracks. The metal has been lightly treated to slow down rust formation; for long-term outdoor use, additional protection against the elements is recommended.
